There have been a lot of volunteering efforts within the metro and even from tacloban and nearby cities. Government and non government organizations were giving their full support to help our brothers and sisters rise up from what hit our country some three weeks ago.
The volunteering efforts were embraced by everyone. People from all walks of life were volunteering to help in their own little ways.
One of the sites that caters majority of the volunteering efforts was at the Villamor Airbase.
They have government and non government organizations there with one aim - to bring a smile to our brothers and sisters!
To help in our own way (aside from giving donations), we have decided to volunteer some of our time to help out.
We signed up to help out Nanay Bayanihan.
When we got to Villamor, we rode the shuttle going to the grandstand. There we met with Kara (she was in charge for the day) and Dra from DOH (sorry forgot the name).
We were briefed on what we need to do when the C130 arrives. We then checked the vicinity, the participating organizations and the people.
It was pretty organized! Here are the notable tents that I saw:
- Food (for all)
- Medical
- Donations
- Mommy's Tent
- Kid's Tent
We were given the opportunity to talk to the Mothers of the babies. They shared their stories and the struggles they have experienced. Since the typhoon happened some 3 weeks ago, they are not that stressed nor traumatized anymore. Instead stories of courage and strength was their main point.
Good to see in their eyes that there is still hope! That there is a rainbow after the storm!
If they thought that we have helped them in our little ways, for us it's the other way around. They helped us understand and realize that life goes on no matter what. That life is a continuous battle that we should fight, if we stop then we will lose. That the Filipino spirit is really waterproof!
Xoxo
