How can we Focus?

Can you relate with me when I say that there are a lot of things to do?  That it’s hard to identify which one to do first if it’s Urgent, Important, ASAP or Critical?

Does your calendar look like this?

Yes, this is my calendar and I was not happy to see this!  There are moments like this when I needed to take each meeting and to squeeze them all in — is this healthy?  My answer is “NO”.

Why? It’s hard to focus — it’s like, there is no time to breath and think of what to do first.  Because instead of planning ahead, there is another meeting coming up that you need to attend.  Then action items piles up and not to mention your emails and other adhoc tasks.  This is just so NOT GOOD!

So what do we do?
Okie — let me tell you this — WORK WILL NEVER GO AWAY — let me repeat that — WORK WILL NEVER GO AWAY! We need to accept that fact!

Number two, we are not robots who doesn’t get tired of working LOOONG hours.  But what if everything just needs to be done ASAP, URGENT, IMPORTANT?? We prioritize and when we do, we focus.

I would like to share what’s helping me Focus:

1. My To-Do List – This is really helpful for me.  I am the type of person who is really having a hard time to focus — when I am in the middle of something and then suddenly a file is not saving too fast — my mind will wander and open another email to respond to.  Then i will not notice that I was not able to finish what I was actually doing.  My To-Do List solved the problem — when I was in a middle of something and my mind wandered — I write it down — that way I can:
        (1) Focus on my original task
        (2) Remember that I have another action item on my plate.

2. I take DND (Do Not Disturb) Status in Skype seriously – In one of the discussion that I attended about Truly Human, there were discussions about the Mind Dimension and its related to Focus.  To be able to focus, we should remove distractions and I bet you will agree 100% that pings are a super distraction.   It’s either you will:
     (1) respond – then you are distracted or
     (2) will ignore but will eventually will not be able to remember the ping — if you noticed, when you ignore a ping — it will (for a time) stop blinking.

This can be a two way sword — people might think that you don’t want to be reached out to — this is Wrong.  If it’s really important / urgent, then people will either approach you, or even text or call you.  Accenture People finds ways — we are good at it.

3. I schedule focus time – In my opinion, attending back to back meetings does not equate to productivity.  Yes you may be productive because there’s a lot going on but were there problems solved? or items closed? more often that not, another meeting needs to be set to eventually close an item.  Anyways, I schedule “FT” Focus Time.  This is blocking my calendar to do an important task so that it will not be blocked by another meeting.   Or even blocking a short breather time.  One of my best practice is scheduling meetings for 45 minutes instead of an hour.  One, it helps me maximize the meeting time that I have and make sure it’s productive, two, I have 15 minutes more to focus and start another meeting (if unavoidable).

4. 60 – 15 approach – This is when I work for 60 minutes and then breath for the next 15 minutes.  How do I do it, i use my phone alarm and it really worked on my focus.

5. I talk to my team and laugh – Really most of the time, when I need to focus — i need some time to talk and laugh (this is me and we can all have different approaches and I am such a talkative person).

These are the things that helped me Focus.  This is not something that may be applicable to all but maybe can also help you.  Different folks, different strokes so what works with me may not work for others but I am welcome to hear best practices so that I can also apply them.  That in itself is Collaboration!

How about you? How do you focus?

Happy Friday: CF and OG HR and CMT Year-End Event!

This is my team!
We work hard but we also play hard!
Have you ever been in love with so many people? I would assume yes!
I am proud to say that "I love this Team" -- in lowlights and in highlights-- we all stick together and I hope we will continue to be like this in the coming years!

Also in teams, communication is key to a healthy working (personal) relationship.  When it's work then we all work but when it's time to have fun (and eat) we really play it hard! :)

Good job guys!

To also recognize our team -- our leads have prepared a simple program for all of us!

Clap! Clap! Clap! Everyone!
Continue to deliver and help the team!

Recognizing performance is really an engagement driver and I hope that it contributed to your engagement :)

What's best way to celebrate a great FY16 is to feast and eat!

I told you before that we really LOVE to eat!

Looking forward to another fruitful year with all of you!

PS: A separate entry shall be created to highlight the bowling event + awarding!

My Third year (Again) in Accenture!

Was there ever a time when you want to turn back time?
Several times this has happened to me and while I am now on my THIRD year (again) with Accenture -- I felt that everything happened so fast and I want to turn back time!

Turn back time to correct the mistakes that I have made and to reminisce the good times that we had!  While although turning back time is not a possibility and will never be -- I would like to share my two thoughts about what happened in the last year of my employment with my favorite employer, Accenture!

1. Change Happens - if you are an Accenture employee, you know that this is actually the norm.  If you are the type of person / employee who embraces change easily then you have been trained by Accenture well! Hehe!  With these changes, I know that I have grown as a person both professionally and personally!

2. Shit Happens - face it, things will not happen the way you want it to be.  Every person is different and a friend told me that "Our differences makes us unique".  What makes it special? -- in our differences we also learn, we make adjustments and we learn to work together as one to achieve a common goal!

I will never deny that my team played a great impact to this wonderful year with Accenture!  I will always be glad to be part of this wonderful, crazy and noisy team!

This was when we had our most recent activity --
Summer FUN - CF and Consulting CMT and HR Way!

Team Liz -- missing Jobs!!

Christmas Party at Vikings SM Mega Mall!

Our Halloween Cute Party!
Our Trick or Treat 2015

The team who eats together -- gets fat together!

I am anticipating more activities with this team.
We may lose people but their sweet smiles will never be forgotten!

Here is to more years with my third party relationship with Accenture!

Trick or Treat: CF CMT Style (Halloween 2015)

It's better late than never -- okie this is super super late as in half a year late but this is still worth recognizing.

Okie -- our team (CF CMT) has always been situated in Gateway but last June of 2015 we moved here CG2 to be situated in the "Workplace of the Future".  With this transfer, we were able to participate in the yearly "Trick or Treat".

We were not that prepared actually..

I thank the team c/o Tine, Jo, Odette, Rox for decorating our work area.
Our theme was "Candy Land".

Then for the entire team in contributing for the candies.

The winner of them all was when Ace dressed up as a super cute monkey mascot.  This is Ace, he was still wearing his badge :) super compliant -- he does not want to tailgate.

This year -- I know it will be a blast!

I swear we will super prepare! haha!
This event was after our Team Halloween Event.

CF and OG TownHall and Christmas Party 2015

Christmas is really the most wonderful time of the year!
Especially if you are spending it with your team, the people you call family at work!

This is our first Christmas party when CMT (Candidate Management) and People Advisors were merged.  We are now called CF (Corporate Functions) & OG (Operating Group) HR Team!! (Yes a lot of acronym going on!).

Last year, it was only CMT and we had it at Ms Myra's house.
Now, we had a two in one event, first half was Townhall and the second half was Christmas Party.   We had it at Mom and Tina's.

Our event was hosted by Anna and Ace who were both very game in gracing the event.  Talagang naka-badge pa si Ace.

It was a fast paced Q1 and it ended so fast, with the updates given by our leads, I am excited to look forward to Q2!!

We also had recognitions and milestone celebrations!

Then on the the exciting part of the party, of course the meal time! It's always fun to eat and eating with your friends make if more exciting! Let me share with you what we had!

We had three games and they were all exciting! Thanks to Tine, Tiney, Rox for hosting them!! They were all fun!

Then we had an exciting twist to our Exchange gift.  The mechanics were:

First, we were holding all our gifts
Second, the host will give out a category and who ever in the group applies to that category will have to stand and exchange their gifts to the people who are also standing
Third is to give out three to four more categories until no one is holding their own gift.
That's it! So exciting and yet simple.

You will also have the opportunity to know something about your team based from the category that will be mentioned!

Here are some of the food we had ^_^

Syempre hindi mawawala ang kainan!

It was a fun event of updates and games!

Basketball: a lot like LIFE

I have been telling you guys that I am not a sporty person. I didn't play any serious sports back in the days because I am afraid -- maybe because I was wearing glasses and I don't want to break my glasses because of any ball hitting my face.

Now on to today, I still don't play any sport but I am now a fan of a Basketball, only because of my husband. Yes I was encouraged to watch even if I know my heart will be beating so fast because I want the team to win.  As I was watching the games, whether live or via TV, I was slowly internalizing that really, this ball game is all about life.  Let me share with you what I thought!

1. We can be a star - in any ballgame there is always a star player, someone who just can't help but score whether on the inside or the outside.  In life, we can also be a star - be good in what we do and be successful in what we want to be -- but like in any ballgame - you will not be a star player without the help of your team.  In life, we will not be successful without the help of our family and support system.

2. We have limited Air Time - in any ballgame, player rotations happen every now and then, substitution will always be there -- not because the players are not playing well but because the coach believes that the players need to re energize. In life -- we will not always be in the lime light, people will replace us for whatever reason, so when we have the Air Time - let's make it worth it!

3. Help the other player to shine - self recognition is important, most especially if you are a star player.  In this ballgame it is not always the case. The players need to play with the team and make others shine as well.  They are all playing FOR the team and WITH a team! In life, we also need to give a support system to others, we need to help other people to be successful. Once we do then we are also successful.

4. The coach is there for a reason - no matter how great the players are, if they don't know how to listen to their coach then what's the use of having one!  Coach is there to strategize a game plan to help achieve the end goal (which is to win) and the players need to trust their coach.  In life, I'm looking at our parents as the ultimate coaches in our lives. They will never give us a play that will ruin our lives and thus it is always good to listen and trust our parents!

5. Bilog ang bola - no matter where the ballgame takes us, whether we win or lose, at the end of the game, learnings will emerge and the players will know how to play harder. In life, we are not always on top of our games, we can be at the bottom and that's not bad.  Life is a continuous journey that we need to travel in whether good or bad, what's important is that we are able to learn from these journey and the learnings will lead us to success!

How about you? How do you relate this ballgame into your life?

Merry CF Recruitment Party!!

It's the time of the year once more where we celebrate our yearly Christmas Party! We were all prepared and we spent is in Ms My's house.
This is the famous "by the pool" wacky shot!

Let me share with you what happened for the rest of the day.
When we arrived, the "Food Committee "already prepared our food.
Thank you Ace, TinaZ, Tell, Roxy and Luanne! Nabusog kami!

Then a bit of decorations was added by our "Decorations Committee".
Thank you Jerome, Tiney and Roxy!

Then on to the one of the most awaited part of the party -- eating time!
Good that we had this one shot while eating because we were all so busy munchin!

Hahahah! ^_^ Of course we will not forget to take a shot of the foodies.

We had welcome remarks care of my very kind and accommodating manager, Ms Myra (Thanks po ulit for having us in your place)!!

Then on to the activities ---
The Games Committee prepared 6 games for all of us.
Before we start the games, we were grouped into two -- Green and Orange team and just coincident that I was part of the "Orange Team".

Before we start the games, the "Games Committee" were very busy preparing our games!

And we are all ready to ramble! Bring it on Green and Orange Team!!

The first game was called "Talong at Posporo (kahon)".
We need to bring the match box to the end of the line with the help of the eggplant. We can't touch the eggplant and here is how it should be done.. "Go Ven"

Then next was "Kadang-Kadang".
We need to walk using the "Bao and Lubid" all the way to the goal then back to our base. "Go Lhen!"

Then we had "Calamansi Relay".
Give me that Calamansi Ven!!!

We also had "Hukayin ang Ginto".  There were gold chocolate coins at the botton of the container filled with flour (if you can scroll up to the picture above of Karen) -- we need to get the coins using our mouth!  No pictures because our faces were all covered with flour!

Next is the "Sack Race" but due to safety reasons - it was deferred.

Last but not the least, the "Pukpok Palayok".

In all that 5 games -- all accumulated points, it was Orange Team who won! Woohooo! Thanks to my team who actively particated! Ven, Mae, Tiney and Jerome!

After the games -- we had some photo opps again by the pool.

We needed to take a rest -- the games were very intense and we were all sweaty!  I was forgot to bring extra clothes --

Again! Thanks to , Anne and Karen for the wonderful and challenging games!

Our next activity was the Exchange Gift and White Elephant.
Thanks Tiney and Mae for explaining to me how the game works -- it's easy to understand but when you are actually explaining to the team, it's complicated (or maybe it's just me!).

I was confused with Left and Right, Odd and Even! hahahaha!
Buti nalang patient ung team sa akin! Thanks Team!

White Elephant was quite confusing but it was a lot of fun, chaos, excitement and thrill! We should do it again next year!

Then on to our exchange gifts!
Then finally to our group picture by the CF Banner :)

Til next year!
